The Alexander Technique is an effective way for students to learn to free their bodies of the tension, stress, and pain brought on by daily activities and habits. This is important because over time these habits train us to exist in unnatural, unbalanced, and unnecessarily strained states.

The human body has a natural balance and state of poise that is affected by surroundings, often in negative ways. We all develop habits as we mature from childhood and we become heavier and more awkward. Over time these habits add pronounced stress which affect breathing, posture, attitude and, most importantly, comfort.

It is with this in mind that the Alexander Technique is applied. From a teacher, students learn to become aware of how they use themselves. They are taught how to recognize their own habits — the way they stand, sit, dance, brush their teeth, whatever — and to apply the Alexander Technique to their daily lives to release muscle tension and stress and become not only more relaxed but also more natural and balanced.
